Dr. Julia Moen is one of 5 children born into a family of Medical Doctors. She is originally from the Chicago and received her undergraduate degree in Pre-Med/ Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology. In undergraduate school, Dr. Julia was a student athletic trainer and worked alongside all the sports teams. Dr. Julia was an All-American field hockey player and captain of her team in college.
Dr. Julia, prior to attending Chiropractic School, volunteered in Medical Clinics in Bangladesh and Ecuador where she received hands on experience in medicine. She has experience working in physical therapy departments, aquatics and on land as well as an orthopedic surgeon's assistant who specialized in knees and shoulders.
For graduate school, Dr. Julia attended Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles. Dr. Julia graduated Salutatorian and was the Clinic Excellence Award Winner. She also received special recognition for her volunteer work while in clinic, where she treated patients in collaboration with medical facilities at USC and Venice Family Clinic. Dr. Julia was in Sports Council, a member of the Student hearing board, and a Student Council Officer. Also, while in school, Dr. Julia worked and traveled with the semi-pro football team, the Long Beach Lions, as their team intern doctor.
Now, Dr. Julia is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physcian (CCSP) and works with many of the local athletes. She is the Chiropractor for El Camino College athletics. She volunteered this past football season as the head trainer at West Torrance High School. Having 9 surgeries herself from athletic injuries, Dr Julia is able to give not only the treatment that the athletes need to get better, but the motivation based from her experiences. She continues to work with a team of local orthopedics implementing proper treatment protocols into various local athletic programs. Furthermore, Dr. Julia is a board member of a non-profit company, sensory research center and a published author.
Dr. Charlie is a South Bay local having grown up in Hermosa Beach. He received his undergraduate BS degree at USC majoring in Exercise Science. While at USC he was the team manager of the women's volleyball team. Dr. Charlie went on to obtain his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Southern California University of Health Sciences where he graduated Cum Laude in 2000. He was awarded the prestigious "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" and was accepted into the Delta Sigma Honorary Scholastic Society of the Healing Arts. Following completion of a year-long internship, Dr. Charlie received recognition for "Outstanding Proficiency in Clinical Practice." In 2001, Dr. Charlie began practicing at Sobol Orthopedic where he had the opportunity to gain experience treating acute and chronic injuries and was responsible for developing an exercise rehabilitation program.
After successfully launching this program, Dr. Charlie expanded the program by training staff and implementing it in Sobol Orthopedic's Pasadena office location. Dr. Charlie has been in private practice in the South Bay since 2005. In addition to being a chiropractor, Dr. Charlie is a licensed X-Ray Operator. Dr. Charlie lives an active lifestyle and in his free time plays beach volleyball. He currently lives in the South Bay and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
Diane Kim is a Licensed Acupuncturist and a Clinical Herbalist. She is a passionate practitioner dedicated to holistic care and is committed to improving the understanding and acceptance of Asian Medicine as a part of one's well being. Diane addresses the needs of the whole body to maintain the balance between Yin and Yang. She is genuinely concerned for the patient's physical, emotional, and mental health.
Diane earned her undergraduate degree from The University of California, Los Angeles, for Fine Arts. She then received her Master's degree in Acupuncture and Asian Medicine from Southern California University of Health Sciences. She has been serving the South Bay for the past 4 years.
Melissa is a Southbay local who grew up in Torrance. She went to UC Davis for undergraduate school where she received her B.S. in Exercise Biology. She played soccer for Davis, as well as many other intramural sports to stay active. After graduation, she became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. While applying for physical therapy graduate school, she worked as a personal trainer and conditioning coach for a girl's soccer team. She continued working in the fitness world as she studied physical therapy at Mount St. Mary's College. In 2010 she began coaching at CrossFit Southbay, in addition to educating Crossfit athletes on injury prevention through better understanding of the human body. In 2011 Melissa graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and began working at Torrance Physical Therapy.
Melissa still works at CrossFit Southbay doing Functional Movement Screens and teaches injury prevention classes. She was chosen as an Expert in the Spotlight through the Functional Movement Screen based on her work with the CrossFit community. She also writes a weekly blog for www.CrossFitSouthbay.com, continuing to educate athletes and share her experiences. She strives to live a healthy lifestyle and continues to stay active playing soccer, doing CrossFit, running at the beach and doing yoga.
Anastasia Gutknecht has been in the medical field for over ten years. Anastasia received her certified nursing assistant LTC and acute care certification when she was 16. She then went on to get her unit secretary followed by her medical coding and billing by the time she was 17. Anastasia worked in assisted living homes and hospitals then decided she wanted to learn more. She then went and furthered her education by being certified as an orthopedic technician.
Through her orthopedic schooling she learned how to make custom splints and casts. Anastasia has so much compassion and love to help people in pain and discomfort that she decided to go to massage school to be a Licensed Massage Therapist. She went to Everest College and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and with honors; she was also ambassador of her class. Anastasia had the opportunity to learn under a great instructor who taught her Medical Massage, and now practices it herself.
Duncan was born on Jan 27, 2011 in Yucca Valley, CA. He is a cockapoo breed, is hypoallergenic, and will grow to be about 20 pounds. His mother is a cocker spaniel and his father is a toy poodle. He was adopted April 10th, 2011 and brought to the SouthBay were he is currently in therapy training to be the therapy dog of ProWellness.
Duncan is very sweet and affectionate. He loves being a part of ProWellness and happily greets every person that walks into the door. He has the most adorable face and melts your heart. Duncan helps ease pain with his sweet, yet playful personality. When Ducan is not working he lives in Hermosa Beach. He loves to go for walks and play never-ending fetch. He also loves to run into closets, sprint out with socks in his mouth, and have you chase him around the house. Duncan is getting trained by Chris and Katie in El Segundo. He meets with them weekly and his courses should be completely by July.
